Artist's Comments

Stainless Steel with smokey quartz.

Daily Deviation

Given 2005-10-22

Although having been suggested for another piece, I found grab by ~noformdesign to be truly unique and interesting out of all the truly unique and interesting things in this artist's gallery! This is the first time I've seen a jewel displayed in such a way, and it goes to show that things don't have to be orthodox to be beautiful. (Suggested by `Myana and Featured by `dedredhed)

is that a solid piece of steel? do you work in other metals? i like the bend, to me that would be enough to set this piece apart. Im not sure how i feel about the upside down setting- its cool and all but its like the odd man out. your photography is excellent, there is a softness in the photo that comforts me.

yes, solid stainless steel (304). i work in many many many different metals, stainless is just one of my favorites. i can understand your feelings on the stone being upside down, but the shape and the cut of the stone seemed to fit the piece better (aesthetically and physically) this way. the stone has a checkerboard cut, and it has an equally interesting look from the bottom. i was most surprised when i found out that the woman who bought this piece was in her 70's. i love it when that happens.

thanks for your opinion on my photography. i tried photography a while ago, but realized i didn't have an eye for it (though i love takin pic's). now i collect old camera's instead.

I like the upside down setting. I think it works really well. The stone (although im sure it is secure) looks like it could easily pop out of the setting which cool aswel.

Ooh, brilliant - two dinosaurs fighting over a gem :P Nice work!

good link. i just can't put all that effort into it. my digital camera, a halogen work light, and whatever i can find to set the piece on, these are my tools and techniques. it's so nice with digital, you can take 4 or 5 shots (or 50 if you're hung over), and pick out the good.
:iconnoformdesign:
thanks. it's more secure than any other stone i've tension set! it's such a big stone, i was able to really put some pressure on it. that's what gives the sides that slight curve.
